Folk

Since there were a lot of German immigrants in the United States, the word "Folk" came from the German "Volk", which means people.

People transmitted folk orally, and play with traditional instruments. Folk usually is a type of music that people sing together instead of watching someone or some group's performance. The themes of folk contain work and labor, social and political issues, religion and spirituality, and storytelling.

Folk is also considered roots music. It inspired many different types of music such as rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and Jazz.

The oldest folk song I found is Springfield Mountain, and it was made in 1761 by an unknown writer. It was the origin of folk. Folk became mainstream in the 1930s and popularized in the 1960s, and now contemporary folk still exists.

One of the popular singers is Woody Guthrie. His song, This Land Is Your Land was made in 1940, and it talks about the socialist Dream. The song is very popular, and many people know this song since their childhood.
