The culture shock I experienced in the US
One culture shock I have a great impression of is the tax and tipping culture. I hang out with my friends when I just came to the United States. We went to an Italian restaurant. The interior design of the restaurant was nice, and the lighting had a good vibe. I took a look at the menu for a while but still didn't what to order. Therefore, I decided to order a hamburger steak since I have never tried it before. I remember the price shown on the menu was eighteen bucks. However, I just realized that I need to pay twenty-three bucks after we got the bill. The original price of my order was eighteen, but it became twenty-three after tax and tips. It shocked me because I didn't expect it to be five dollars more expensive. In my country, we used to pay for what is shown on the menu. After researching some information online, finally, I understand the tipping culture in the united states. Many years ago, the waiters didn't get paid by the boss, and all their wages are from the services fee that customers pay for them. In the contrast, bosses pay the wages to their employees in my country. It still confuses me today because I think it would be easier for customers to pay and know their bills if the boss have counted taxes and tips in advance.
